Dresses for Little Girls

Dresses for Little Girls

This page is devoted to dresses for babies and little girls.

Sailor Dresses for Eliana & Laila

These dresses are made with a beautiful lightweight seersucker striped fabric.  I went with snaps instead of buttons and even though I prefer the look of buttons I like to use snaps when the garment is for a child who doesn't walk as they spend most of their time laying around.
Vintage 1950's Taffeta Dress w/ matching Doll Dress

This dress is made from a vintage 1950's pattern that Aimee got me for Christmas.  It is for age 6 and I thought "wouldn't it be great to have a matching dress for your doll?" So I borrowed Ki Kitridge from my friend Kalyn and used her to model. The bow on the doll's dress in permently tied and snaps to the opposite side, and the back of Kit's dress velcros.  The bow on the girl's dress ties and the back has
'cover me buttons.' This dress is a 6 and the doll's dress fits most 18" dolls.  Kit(doll) and Kit's shoes not included.  This item is for sale.

Christmas Dresses for Eli & Laila

This was my first and probably last time working with velvet.  Perhaps it was just because it was on such a small scale, but I think they turned out alright in the end.  It was the girls first Christmas when they could walk and I wanted them to have a classic Christmas dress, and it was a surprise for their mom too.  I made matching headbands out the remaining taffeta and elastic, and I made roses to go on the headbands (the girls were not fans of the headbands).  I love Christmas taffeta! The red was much stiffer than the gray and while they are adorable they are not washable so they are definitely special occasion dresses.

Summer Play Dresses for the girls

I wanted to make a lightweight fun summer dress so I found some old sheets (blue and yellow) and bits of old fabric not large enough for anything else for the pockets.  For the yellow dress I found fabric that had flowers on it and cut out an existing flower and lined them, turned them, and stitched them on.  For the blue dress I just drew a tulip and cut out and lined it and stitched it on.  The buttons on the shoulders are just for show, they do not unbutton...otherwise there might be some naked little girls running around.
Just what every little girls needs to spend her summers in!

Delilah's Dress

.          This is made from a soft cotton fabric and I just happened to have a matching brown to make the waistband and bow. It ended up looking very sweet, and Delilah ended up having to wear it in the winter with a onezie underneath as she would be too big for it by the time spring came around.

Evelyn's Dress

This is my all time favorite baby dress I have ever made.  I had left over unbleached muslin and wanted to use it as a base for a dress, like a vintage look.  So I bought a small flower stamp and some pink fabric paint and painted the muslin.  I also painted the piping that I used at the waist and around the collar, as well as the 'cover me button' covers. It took a very long time to paint everything, but this dress is exactly what I was hoping for.
This was a baby shower gift and I am happy to say that Evelyn was born a few weeks ago.

Eli & Laila's Christmas Dresses w/ matching Doll Dresses

This dress is made from unbleached muslin and I made a stamp out of craft foam for the three sizes of flowers and then painted them (with fabric paint) and applied them to the fabric. I also painted the piping at the waist and collar trim, as well as the 'cover me button' covers.
For the doll dresses I just used the mini stamp from Evelyn's dress and painted the collars completely, and used mini snaps.  I searched everywhere for a simple baby doll with soft body and hard head, arms and legs, which is very hard to find, but I found two at Walmart for $5!

I am just looking for a place to send people who would like to see what is it I make.  Please let me know if you have questions or comments or would like to have me make something.
